Full Term Baby!

DATE: December 20, 2014

HOW FAR ALONG? 37 weeks and 6 days, 38 weeks tomorrow!

GENDER: My mother’s intuition is very confused these days….

BABY IS THE SIZE OF A: a leek (!) or a stalk of swiss chard (!) in length…those are awfully hard images for me to picture in comparison with a baby, so I will go with the app that tells me it is the size of a winter melon, which to be honest I am not sure I even know what a winter melon is!

TOTAL WEIGHT GAIN:  Wait for it…42 pounds!  My oh my!  I don’t feel like I have ballooned up or gained tons of weight in places besides my belly, but still, 42 pounds is nothing to scoff at.  That is some serious weight gain!

MATERNITY CLOTHES? I wonder if Chad is tired of seeing me in the same pair of extremely comfy and too short pajama pants from at least 5 Christmases ago, Target tank top, and his Whistler zip up fleece? It has kinda become my at home uniform and it is so comfy it is hard to put anything else on when I am just lounging at home.

STRETCH MARKS? I am proud to say that I still have no stretch marks, which to me seems to be quite a feat because this belly is not small!  Lotion, lotion, lotion!

MOVEMENT: I think it is getting a bit crowded in their for Baby Hansen, who the doctor assures me will have not issues with low birth weight (are you sensing a theme here yet?).  The baby is still finding ways to jab and poke and stretch out and move though.  It is the most welcome and amazing feeling every time.  It truly never gets old!

SLEEP: Sleep could be better, but I really can’t complain because now that December 20th has rolled around, I technically don’t have to wake up and go to work for roughly 9 months.  Wow, that really sounds amazing, doesn’t it?  There are nights where I wake up twice and there are nights where I see every hour from midnight to 5am.  I have been propping myself up nice and high though in an effort to curb heartburn and Chad’s favorite symptom, snoring!

SYMPTOMS:  Besides the meal time burping, my major symptoms are some nightly heartburn if I try to lay all the way down and my unique ability to saw logs all night long much to Chad’s detriment.  Apparently my compressed diaphragm makes for the perfect conditions to snore quite loudly these days.  Chad may have some video footage of this…just to prove to me how wonderfully I snore each night!

FOOD CRAVINGS: I really love dessert these days.  Cookies, ice cream sandwiches, chocolate, all desserts…which you would think would explain the 42 pounds, but shockingly I gave in to all my dessert cravings this past week (thanks in part to my friend Jessica’s annual Christmas cookie party, and I actually didn’t gain any weight from my last visit to this current one.  Basically that just makes me think that I can eat the all the treats I want, which is probably the exact opposite of what I should be doing.  Oops!

ANYTHING MAKING YOU SICK?  Nope!  I am doing and feeling really good!

WEDDING RING ON OR OFF? Off, which makes me sad, but I am looking forward to putting it back on in a matter of weeks!?!

BELLY BUTTON IN OR OUT? Out, proud, and showing through most all my tight clothes.

WHAT I MISS:  The sense that I know what is going to happen during the next few weeks.  It is such an unknown as to when Baby Hansen will come that there are a few nerves thinking about the unknown, but to be honest, I truly think that there are at least 2 more weeks of cooking for this little one.  At least that is what my incredibly accurate and on-point mother’s intuition says!

WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO: Seeing our baby for the first time and learning if have a little Majbritt Lee Hansen or Ole Niklas Hansen!  Yay for finalized names!

MILESTONES?  Reaching full-term!  It was so nerve-wracking in the early stages of pregnancy as you heard all kinds of stories of babies that were born early that it is so nice to know that our baby has passed many important milestones and that if he or she was born to day there would most likely be no complication with the gestational time at all!

BEST MOMENT THIS WEEK: Celebrating the last day of school and work for me as well as feting Chad and Dom, dads to be, at a family party at the Wedgwood Alehouse yesterday.  Chad has been an excellent partner during this entire journey and he deserved a little celebration yesterday!  See pictures of the fun below!
