Almost Three-Quarters of the Way There! 29 Week Update

 DATE:  October 22, 2014

HOW FAR ALONG? 29 weeks, officially in the third trimester! I can’t believe that I am already so far along.  How time flies!

GENDER:  Baby Hansen is a surprise! However this doesn’t stop people I’ve never met from letting me know what they think we are having. The ladies at Taco del Mar think it is a girl and the lady selling papers outside of QFC thinks we are having a boy.  Too funny!

BABY IS THE SIZE OF A: Either a small cabbage or a butternut squash this week!  Baby butternut!

TOTAL WEIGHT GAIN:  I am headed to my doctor appointment today, so I am sure I will find out then.  I haven’t been weighing myself so I don’t stress out about it, but I am guessing there is a number in the high 20 pounds coming my way this afternoon.

MATERNITY CLOTHES?  When it comes to pants, I am wearing exclusively maternity or pants altered with my “belly button band” to work like maternity.  Baby Hansen is growing big and taking up a lot of space!  I still have many shirts that work during this time, but there is nothing more flattering or comfortable then a big sweater or maternity tank.  My workout tank tops don’t quite reach my pants anymore!  I definitely have flashed some belly by accident lately…oops!

STRETCH MARKS? Fingers crossed nothing changes and so far, so good!  I still put cocoa butter lotion on religiously every day after showering, so hopefully that is helping.  At least it makes me feel like I am doing my part to prevent them if nothing else.

MOVEMENT: Moving all the time! It is by far my favorite thing about being pregnant.  There is something so amazing about feeling a leg or an arm move around in your belly that is so hard to explain.  It is quite an experience!  Chad is shocked by how powerful Baby Hansen’s kicks are and by how much you can feel move.

SLEEP:  Surprisingly I am sleeping quite well.  I have replaced Roger the pregnancy pillow with a smaller pillow between my legs for the time being.  With the pup in bed (and always sleeping at my feet and taking up the entire bottom half of the bed) I found it easier to switch sides when I had just a small pillow for leg and hip support.  I have to switch sides every time I wake up as my hips get a bit sore.  I wake up often, but can always fall immediately back to sleep.

SYMPTOMS: Burp!  Burp!  It has subsided a bit, but I still burp after most any meal. I haven’t had too many other symptoms, but I did get quite sick at the end of the 27th week with a horrible head cold.  Headache, stuffy nose, sore throat, coughing…it was not fun!  I was in bed almost exclusively (I managed to get myself presentable enough to attend Mary and Monica’s baby shower) from Friday night until Monday morning. Chad was so good to me during this time and waited on me hand and foot (good practice for postpartum!). Luckily it didn’t last too long and I didn’t have to use any of my personal days as I never spiked more than a 99.5 degree fever.  Phew! I bought a neti pot and got quickly acquainted with it though!

FOOD CRAVINGS: I don’t have many specific food cravings, but Chad and I have been eating our fair share of Taco del Mar these days.  We always have coupons and deals for tacos there and can’t argue with semi-healthy Mexican food dinner for two for under $10!  It doesn’t hurt that I love any restaurant with queso on the menu!

ANYTHING MAKING YOU SICK? Not currently…but I am starting to get a bit sick of chicken.  I eat A LOT of chicken ever since realizing that I was not getting enough protein for my growing babe!

WEDDING RING ON OR OFF? On! I think it needs a good shining up these days.

BELLY BUTTON IN OR OUT? Out…yes, it is definitely out these days.  The top is out and the bottom is pretty flat, but after a big meal, it is most definitely popped out! So crazy as you can see it in many shirts I wear too.

WHAT I MISS: I miss a good pumpkin ale these days.  Chad sweetly bought me one and has it in the basement “cellaring” until January when I can enjoy it.  More than anything I really just wish that I could have a nice warm cup of coffee with holiday flavored creamers.  I could also use the caffeine pick me up on many days.  Hmm….I really do miss coffee like a best friend that moved away and you never get to see anymore, but think back on the good times fondly.

WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO: I am looking forward to the fun that the next few months hold with Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.  I can’t believe that the holidays are so close!

MILESTONES? We had our first baby shower this past weekend and we have two more in the coming weeks.  It was a great party at Diane’s new house.  It was fun to see family and everyone gave us such sweet gifts.  We got cute board books, practical must haves, and an awesome rocker chair from my mom called a Momaroo.  It is so awesome and I had it set up before the night was even over!

BEST MOMENT THIS WEEK: The best moment this week was sitting in the warm (yes, I said warm) October sun down at the water at the dog park.  Chad and I just sat and enjoyed the afternoon while Bear had a great time romping in the water and playing with other dogs.  It was just such a sunny and perfect afternoon to spend with the most important people in my life.  We got pumpkins afterwards.  Such a great afternoon!

*28 Weeks and working on growing a basketball under my shirt!

*Mom-to-be and Grandma-to-be at the shower.  Doesn't she look too young to be a grandma?

*I enjoyed the opportunity to get dressed up for the shower, though yoga pants are still my favorite thing to wear.  Bear looks a bit vicious yawning in this picture!

*A Hansen Family Selfie!

*Diane's cute shower decor!

*We had such a great time and there were so many gifts to open!  We are so blessed!

*Chad got a diaper duty kit...hopefully he won't need that much protection!

*Dad to be!

*Chad and soon to be grandma, Diane!  Thanks for a wonderful shower, Diane!!!!
