26 Week Update

DATE: October 4, 2014

HOW FAR ALONG? 26 weeks along!  According to one of my apps, this is the start of the 3rd trimester.  However, according to another app, it starts next week, and yet another, says the week after, so who knows!

GENDER: Baby Hansen is keeping us guessing, though we have found that we keep slipping up and saying…she!

BABY IS THE SIZE OF A: an eggplant or a head of cauliflower!  Weighing in at 2 pounds and almost 15 inches long.

TOTAL WEIGHT GAIN:  At my last visit, it was at least a gain of 20-22.  P.S. I officially weigh more than Chad does!

MATERNITY CLOTHES?  Oh yes!  In fact I bought my first pair of legitimate maternity jeans this past week…and they are awesome!  There is nothing like removing the worst part of a pair of jeans (the very top) and replacing it with 8-10 inches of elastic!  Shopping for maternity jeans was way easier than jean shopping has every been for me!  I may never go back to real jeans again.

STRETCH MARKS? Not yet, but I continue to lotion my belly every day.  My line nigra sure is making itself known though!  It goes around my belly button too and then up. Quite strange looking if I do say so myself.

MOVEMENT: Baby Hansen is quite a mover and shaker these days.  Baby is quite chill during the work week, but on the weekends I feel baby a lot more often.  Usually during the week I feel baby a little in the mornings, a bit at work, and then after dinner Baby Hansen breaks into a dance party.  It is truly the most amazing feeling ever.  I am so glad that Chad has got to feel so many movement too.  I have also successfully introduced baby’s kicks to my mom, sister, brother, and a handful of Binas, too!

SLEEP: Me and “Roger” are becoming good friends.  For those who missed it, Roger is the name of my pregnancy pillow.  It takes up so much space in bed, we decided it deserved a name.  Thanks to Roger I tend to sleep pretty well minus the occasional midnight bathroom break.

SYMPTOMS:  I am lucky to say that I have not had any major symptoms.  I have had some high blood pressure readings at the doctor, which led me to buy an at-home blood pressure monitor (yes, we just became 85!).  Luckily the readings at home are much lower, so that would suggest that it is just a case of good ‘ole fashioned “white coat hypertension.”  However, that didn’t stop my doctor from deciding that collecting my urine for 24 hours was a good idea to run more tests.  I almost filled the jug, too!

FOOD CRAVINGS: Anything fried sounds good always, though I try to monitor that craving since it isn’t very healthy for me or the baby.  It is noteworthy though that Chad and I have had more Taco del Mar in the past month, then I think we usually have all year long.  My stock pile of coupons for tacos has led us to enjoy their cheap and healthy burritos!  Even at 9:55pm on the way home from birthing class.  Is it bad when the people who work there are expecting you?

ANYTHING MAKING YOU SICK?  So far, so good! Nothing yet, but I could definitely use more rest…

WEDDING RING ON OR OFF? On! Yay!

BELLY BUTTON IN OR OUT? That one is up for debate.  In the mornings I would say the top is out and the rest is flat, but right now, in the evening, it is pretty close to popping out!!

WHAT I MISS:  What I miss isn’t really just a pre-pregnancy thing, but rather just a wish that I could have more down time.  I miss feeling like there was time to just relax and hang out.  We have been so very busy lately!

WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO: The upcoming baby showers!!!

MILESTONES?  Depending on which app you read, the third trimester is a big one!  Plus I had my big Rhogam shot at the doctor and also had the glucose test (awaiting results).  I actually had to take the test twice because of a lab error. Luckily the doctor let me eat jelly beans the second time as I was not about to drink that horrible glucola again!  The baby is also a big kicker in the evenings which is so much fun and reassuring to feel.

BEST MOMENT THIS WEEK: The best moment this week was probably spending time with the binas, manbinas, and teeny-beenies at Tiffany and Andy’s wedding in Tahoe.  It was so great to see everyone and to get to spend time together.  I also loved putting the nursery together this past week.  I can’t wait to post pictures of the final product!
