Over Halfway There at 21 Weeks

DATE: August 27, 2014

HOW FAR ALONG?  21 Weeks! Over halfway there!

GENDER:  We had our anatomy scan ultrasound last week and declined to find out, so the only way to know now is to track down our very nice technician and see if he remembers us!  They don’t write it down for the doctor to ensure your doctor doesn’t slip up by accident!  We also had to look away any time we came close to our baby’s bum.  It was quite a tease when the technician was wowed by our baby’s kicking legs which we weren’t able to see!

BABY IS THE SIZE OF A: A large carrot or banana

TOTAL WEIGHT GAIN: 16 pounds! Oh my!  It is about 1 pound over average, so I guess that isn’t horrible.  I thought I had gained 20(!), but it was a difference between the scale at home and the reading on the scale at the doctor’s office.  Phew!  I don’t feel that I look bigger anywhere but in the belly, but growing big in pounds I guess.

MATERNITY CLOTHES?  Oh yes!  I love the maternity site Pink Blush and bought some cute work tops from there.

STRETCH MARKS? Not yet!  Lotioning up still every day!

MOVEMENT: Yes! Finally, yes!  I felt baby’s first kick last week.  It was such a crazy feeling and one that was so unexpected.  I was sitting on the couch when I suddenly felt this very distinct kick from inside.  It was the most amazing and awe-inspiring feeling.  I couldn’t help but start laughing!  It was such a great moment.  I occasionally feel movement throughout the day, but it is very varied at this point as to how often, where, and when.  Always welcome though!

SLEEP: Despite the heat and the frequent bathroom trips….not too bad. Can’t start complaining now as I am sure it is only going to get worse.

SYMPTOMS: Burp…burp…burp…burp…that is about it right now!!

FOOD CRAVINGS: Not too many, but macaroni and cheese always sounds appealing!  And fruit, fresh fruit, especially berries!  And string cheese! I guess that there are quite a few after all!

ANYTHING MAKING YOU SICK? No, but I did feel a little wave of the fun from the first trimester this morning.  Please don’t return nausea!  You were not fun the first time!

WEDDING RING ON OR OFF? On!!

BELLY BUTTON IN OR OUT?  It is still considered “in” but it is soooooo stretched out right now!  It just might pop out of these days.  I am shocked by how stretched out it is.  It’s practically flat!

WHAT I MISS:  Energy to get ready for the school year…this was the first week back for inservice meetings.  While it has been fun to see people and of course, talk about the baby (I especially enjoy being able to go through this with a coworker of mine who is due 2-3 weeks after me), it is very tiring getting a classroom ready and I would much rather come home and rest then spend the 12 hours at work that I spent today getting the room ready for the Open House tomorrow.

WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO: Feeling more frequent kicks and especially for the kicks that we can see of that Chad can actually feel too!

MILESTONES?  Quite a few!
*Anatomy ultrasound which call came back perfectly healthy and normal. Baby’s growth is in the 84% and growing strong!  It did detect a fibroid, but that seems to be a non-issue which is great.
*First kicks!
*Baby’s photo shoot
*Seeing Baby move on the ultrasound (minus those kicking legs!)
*Back to work
*Pregnant camping trip - squatting in the woods 5 months pregnant has got to be a milestone in my book!

BEST MOMENT THIS WEEK: The amazing experience of seeing the baby at the ultrasound probably takes the cake and will be a memory that Chad and I have forever.  It was so amazing to see our little one on the screen moving around.  I also enjoyed my doctor appointment this week.  I am so grateful for my doctor.  She is just what I need and knows just what to say.

*Baby Hansen's adorable face!  I think I spy my nose and Chad's cromagnon brow ridge. :)

*Yes, this is indeed a photo of our baby giving us the middle finger...or at least giving it to the technician who kept wiggling the ultrasound reader to get baby into a better viewing position.  When the technician printed this picture he said that he thought is showed some "sass."  That is not a word used to describe many boys, so maybe that means this little one is a girl??
*My sister found out that she is having a...BOY!  So exciting!

*Showing off my bump at 21 weeks while camping at Grayland Beach State Park for this year's family reunion.

*Family photo time for all 4 of us!
