Hitting the 8 Week Mark Sooner than Expected

DATE: May 30, 2014

HOW FAR ALONG?  8 weeks….almost 9 weeks, I went to the doctor for my first ultrasound and as I had suspected the doctor thought I was almost a week farther along than my dates would suggest based on the size of our little kidney bean.  Blame it on a short cycle and early ovulation dates.  So I jumped from almost 8 weeks to almost 9!

GENDER:  Hmmmm…..some days I think it boy and then some days I think girl

BABY IS THE SIZE OF A: kidney bean, raspberry, or cherry

TOTAL WEIGHT GAIN: 1 pound roughly

MATERNITY CLOTHES?  No, but I do love anything flowy and easy to wear.  Nothing tight on the tummy!

STRETCH MARKS?  Lotion every day!

MOVEMENT:  Excited for the day when I do get to feel the “tiny bubbles!”

SLEEP:  We got a new mattress and new duvet which has been like sleeping on a cloud.  I am planning to buy a new pregnancy pillow soon too!

SYMPTOMS:  Fatigue, fatigue, fatigue!  I am always tired and usually tired and ready for bed by 7pm.  My tatas feel achy every morning and my stomach bloating comes a goes but is almost always there every evening helping me realize what my belly will look like down the road.  I also have mild headaches many evenings.  Luckily they don’t get too bad or worse as the evening goes on.

FOOD CRAVINGS:  Not really, but I am certainly eating a few more carbs then my pre-wedding eating plan had allowed me to!

ANYTHING MAKING YOU SICK?  Eating sometimes makes me feel sick, which feels quite counterproductive when you are starving.  I also wake up and feel quite nauseous until I eat something.  As a person who used to not be able to eat breakfast for at least an hour after waking, it has been quite a change to wake up and eat right away.  God bless a quick and delicious Eggo waffle these days!

WEDDING RING ON OR OFF?  Wedding ring on, of course!

BELLY BUTTON IN OR OUT?  In.

WHAT I MISS:  Not worrying about things….hopefully unnecessarily.

WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO:  Seeing my new doctor for my 12 week check-up.  Switching insurances has caused me to see one doctor now and then start with my new doctor at my next visit.  My first doctor was very nice, but a bit cold for my liking.

MILESTONES?  Seeing the baby on the ultrasound was definitely a milestone!  We got to see its flickering heartbeat too!  It was so reassuring to see that everything is alright and such a special moment to hold Chad’s hand and look at our little kidney bean on the screen.

I’m not sure if this counts as a milestone, but I found out this week at my first doctor visit that my blood type is A-.  Who knew?  Only 7% of Caucasians have this blood type (and apparently the entire British Royal Family!!).  It complicates pregnancies because if our baby has a + blood type then my body will create antibodies to fight the + baby’s blood. Once the antibodies are there, they never leave which complicates future pregnancies.  I was pretty freaked out about this for awhile, but the wind is slowly returning to my sails.  There is a shot you can get that will prevent any problems from occurring for me or the baby, but it is a bit complicating and is something that I wish I didn’t have to deal with.  However, I know that every person and every pregnancy has issues and things that complicate it, but I just always hoped that mine wouldn’t.  I should have known that nothing is perfect.  Chad keeps telling me to have faith.  Every day that faith gets stronger.

BEST MOMENT THIS WEEK:  Seeing that baby on the screen and hearing the doctor tell us that everything looks just as it should.  Seeing the flickering heartbeat was just as wonderful as I had thought it would be…
